Carry Me (The Madness Prayer)

He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. Isaiah 40:11

Gather me up, Scoop me into your arms...

Carry me,
legs failing,
heart heavy,
breath labored...
stumbling
and I don't care if I fall
no desire to get up again
can barely hear you call...
 wondering,
can I walk this journey after all-

Lift me from the path awhile,
that I might draw strength to carry on,
find my legs again
remember my feet
walk alongside you
once more..
with confidence.

Hold me,
close to your bosom,
your heartbeat, to my ear,
is comfort.

Hold me-
tighter still,
keep me close without release,
for I fear this fate unknown
 will swallow my soul
leaving a shell-
lifeless
empty
void
dwelling place of nothing,
vacant hole
where no-one ever lived
for whom the bell tolls,
nevermore

Feed me,
nurse me to wholeness,
dress these wounds
with healing
to the innermost core of my being.

So needy,
hungry and thirsty
for your
righteousness;
longing to see your goodness in the land of the living.

Lead me,
gently-
I need your gentleness-
to touch my madness,
for I am mad, indeed.

Life leaves me furious, full of madness
that could leave me
 barefoot at the brink of
dangerous edges
but for grace that takes my place.
Pauses me.
Catches me.
Holds me.
Close.
Closer still.

“Madness is to think of too many things in succession too fast, or of one thing too exclusively”
Voltaire

“'But I don’t want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
'Oh, you can’t help that,' said the Cat. 'We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.'
'How do you know I’m mad?' said Alice.
'You must be,” said the Cat. 'or you wouldn't have come here.'”
Lewis Carroll

* I pondered madness and couldn't resist including these two quotes which outright summed up well, my past few days.*

  7. It's a mad world...but thankfully we have been given a spirit of power, love and a sound mind...hope your spirit is soaring above the madness and if not that you sense the Shepherd carrying you close to His heart...whichever you need most I know He will provide...

  8. Dear Dawn
Life without our Pappa God will definitely send us off to Dorothy and the cat without us even noticing it until it is too late! What an incredible poem!
    Grace be with you, Dawn
