Inspiring Quotes On Writing (Why Do You Write?)

Today, I am about to curl up in a cozy chair and write...and my mind comes to this quote from Chariots of Fire...."I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure."

I believe God made me for a purpose and I will write today because when I write I feel His pleasure.

Why do you write, today?

Here are some favorite quotes to ponder, feel free to share your own in the comments.
I always am looking for a few more great quotes!

"A writer lives, at best, in a state of astonishment." William Sansom

  1. Hi Dawn! Love these quotes so much, thanks for posting them! I am beginning to re-surface after some sicky-ness this last week. But the sun is shining and it is a NEW day! hoo-ray!!

  3. Dawn:
I understand that quote from Chariots of Fire. I write because I can't NOT write. Even when we are out in a restaurant, I see people and usually I fall into the 'people watching' mode. When I watch a television show I watch for things that the writer or writers have done and consider how I might have done differently. I found myself critiquing our pastor's sermons. Once he pronounced an author's name incorrectly. The author was French Canadian and he used the American pronunciation. I tried to be polite about it.

    1. "I can't NOT write." That's how I've been explaining it to my family for most of my life!

  4. I love the quotes Dawn. I write to touch the lives of others and give hope. I also write to document my life. I have always kept journals.

    1. Beth, would love for you to link up some time for our Random Journal Day! We share a bit of hearts from our journal and have a sweet community of sisters! The next one is this Friday- link is open and you can link anytime over the weekend or even next week. Thanks for visiting!

  5. I write because I'm hyper-graphic and I'll go crazy if I don't!

  6. Awesome! Love these. I like these, too...

The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say. ~Anaïs Nin

The act of putting pen to paper encourages pause for thought, this in turn makes us think more deeply about life, which helps us regain our equilibrium. ~Norbet Platt

Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart. ~William Wordsworth

We write to remember our nows later. ~Terri Guillemets

Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish. ~ John Jakes

  7. I write to tell my stories - - each with a message. I know God is pleased when I write and my prayer is that it will bless others.

  8. Wonderful, Dawn! Love these quotes--especially that first Sansom one. Beautiful. I write for many reasons, but probably the one you mention is the main one for me too. It is a way of noticing God for me--of being attentive to His presence. Lovely.

  9. Nice blog! thanks for sharing awesome Inspirational quotes about God, you have inspired me to continue with my work.

Keep it up and be a blessing to others!
